Intent
Reading at Brookland Junior School
At Brookland, we want our children to love and appreciate reading. We want them to read a range of books that are of an appropriate level of challenge, fluently and confidently.
We aim for our children to be able to discuss the texts they are reading and make links with other books and real life experiences. Whilst doing this, we want them to develop their vocabulary in order to aid their learning, improve their writing and foster a lifelong love of reading.
We want our children to be secondary school ready, so they can access the whole curriculum available to them.
We do this through selecting appropriately challenging texts for independent reading, guided reading, reading aloud to the children and in our English lessons. These books are on our literature spine pages.
